Close-up flower shoot

Here is my first experimental shoot that I did. This was done in my kitchen at home, and using my IPhone11. I tried to capture the flowers from different angles to get some more abstract photos, whilst trying to focus on macro photography.
This bunch of flowers was particularly colourful so it allowed for more contrast in the photos. During this shoot I was just trying to gather ideas for how I would want to present the flowers to my audience as this is something that I will have to put a lot of thought into for my final shoot.
Below are my three photos that I decided to edit in photoshop. I chose to keep the editing to a minimum and to keep it natural as my aim for my work is not to make the flowers distorted at all. I think these edits worked really well and exaggerated the colours of the flowers.

Underwater Shoot Cut Flowers

After this experimental shoot, I decided to choice underwater images as my final series of work.
This was my first underwater shoot and I feel as though it went really well. In this shoot I was still trying to focus on macro photography but I was also looking at trying to incorporate sunlight. These were taken with a digital camera and a macro lens so I was able to get better quality images and detail. In these pictures I am particularly pleased with how the water droplets have turned out and how visible they are. The flowers used in these photos are cut flowers that I bought from a shop, probably grown in another country.
Here are my edits from the shoot. I have again tried to keep them looking natural, however I did play around with black and white and I think that for this first picture it looks really good. I could possibly do more black and white photographs and possibly do a series with just them.

Blossom change over time series

This shoot was done over several days as it is to show the change of blossom. For this shoot I decided to take pictures of the blossom on both my apple and pear tree. These pictures were taken at the same time each day and of the same bunches of blossom to best show the change that took place. I really enjoyed doing this photoshoot as this is not something that I had tried before. I think that It would have worked better if i had done it over a longer period of time as you can't see very much change, other things that I think would have made this series better is if the weather had kept consistent. Unfortunately that is not something that I could prevent, however, I think that it would also help for the change to be more visible.
Below are my edits from the shoot. I am particularly happy with these as I think the colours that can be seen really show spring and how beautiful simple flowers can be.

Close-up flower shoot

This is another close up flower shoot, but this time on a windowsill in my bedroom. Having these flowers in the window allowed me to use more natural light and get glimpses of the sun in some photos. In this shoot I have used the tulips from the first underwater shoot. Once opening they had some really lovely contrast in colours that I wanted to capture.
In the edits of these photographs, I managed to bring out the colour even more, I really love how vibrant these photos have turned out. I also tried the black and white on one of these photos as I did previously with one picture and I definitely don't think that this one was as strong and captivating as the last. This could be because I didn't make it dark enough or have enough contrast.

Underwater Shoot Blossom

This was my second underwater shoot that I did. After doing my research into cut flowers and thinking about the ethics behind my work, I decided to do this second shoot using blossom collected whilst on a walk. This is to show the differences in the shoots, both show beautiful flowers, however the blossom that I collected which cost me nothing looks just as amazing in water as the bought flowers that would have caused so much pollution to get to the shop. The smaller, white bunch is hawthorn blossom, and the ones with pink on the petals is horse chestnut blossom.
The edits of this shoot I am very pleased with and will be considering some as my final piece, and to put in the end of year exhibition. I really like the vibrance and how well I have been able to capture the smallest of detail.

Close-up flower film prints

Here are my printed pictures from my developed film. They are another close-up shoot of the opened tulips. I did some test strips to start off with to find the right exposure time that I needed to give me the best looking result, I decided on 4 seconds. After multiple test strips I finally starting printing the whole of the images and I think that I have some really great results.

Cyanotype Prints

To expand on my experimentations, I did some cyanotype prints. I used some paper that had already been brushed over and chose some objects that I though would leave interesting negative spaces. I used black paper that I cut into shapes, feathers, and glass beads. The glass beads are what left the 'O' looking shapes as they were not fully opaque. However, the pieces of black card worked really well and gave very strong and crisp shapes as it is fully opaque.
I decided that whilst this was some good experimentation, I didn't enjoy working with this media.
